More about cashmere

When it comes to luxury in fashion, nothing comes close to cashmere due to its unmatched softness, warmth, and sophistication!

Cashmere owes its name and heritage to the Kashmir region, nestled in the Himalayan mountains. For centuries, the nomadic herders of the region have tended to cashmere goats, prized for their incredibly soft undercoats. The raw fibre, painstakingly combed during the goats' moulting season, was initially used to craft traditional shawls and garments treasured by royalty. Nowadays cashmere is more accessible for all, but our commitment to protecting the ancient practices remain, as does our commitment to produce and ensure items get to you in the most ethical and environmentally friendly way. All of our cashmere is sourced from Mongolia, and more can be seen about this in our sustainability section of the website.

The answer to what makes cashmere so special lies in its fibres. Unlike regular wool, which can feel coarse and prickly, cashmere fibres are ultra-fine measuring under 19 microns in diameter. This remarkable finesse results in a fabric that is feather-light yet incredibly warm, making it the ideal choice for knitwear that feels lovely and cosy but not hot. We like to think it is akin to a gentle hug to beat the chill! Cashmere's natural elasticity also allows for garments that drape beautifully, creating a flattering fit. At Mon Petit Cashmere we carefully design each item individually ensuring they are unique to us and optimise these qualities.
